Internal TV speakers?
I have a Sony Bravia LCD HDTV. I was just reading through the safety manual, and a section reads that the TV's speaker unit has a "powerful magnet" and "emits a magnetic field that susceptible devices should be kept away from."
Well, I'm not sure if the manual is talking about the TV's INTERNAL speakers or if they mean an optional surround sound system (which I do NOT have hooked up). I have a Sony PS3 that is at least 1.5 feet (18 inches) away from the speakers of the TV itself.
Is this enough distance to prevent any kind of adverse affect on the PS3's HDD or blu-ray laser? It would be very difficult to move it further away ... the console sits on the bottom shelf of the stand, and the TV is on top of the stand. To move it further away would mean moving the console close to the GROUND, where it could possibly be stepped on, and also make the power cord and HDMI cable easier to trip over.
I am wondering whether or not the TV's internal speakers are even an issue, or if the manual is only referring to a peripheral surround sound "speaker unit."
And also whether or not 1.5 feet is sufficient distance between the PS3 and the TV, anyway?
Gotta love them lawyers . . . Yes, they mean the internal speakers. All speakers have magnets. Magnets will not affect DVDs, DVD Players, PS3, memory sticks, small children and pets. Magnets will affect videotapes (if you still use any), floppy disks (if you still have any), and the odd HDD, however most HDDs are housed in the computer's case so they are quite safe. This sounds like a warning so that if anyone does have a problem, they can say "we told you so". Fast food coffee has a warning on the side now too. Don't panic.
